The Piriformis Stretch to Relieve Sciatica

By admin | March 7, 2010

When you have sciatica (a pinched nerve or irritated sciatic nerve resulting in certain symptoms including the most common – pain), the pain is intense and deep.  You can feel it anywhere along the length of your sciatic nerve that starts from the lower back that travels down through the back of the legs.  To relieve yourself of the pain, people learn sciatica stretches.  There are two stretches that are highly recommended for sciatica.  The knee to chest stretch and the Piriformis stretch.  The Piriformis stretch is when you are lying down flat on the ground with knees up.  Place your left leg over the right knee and lift your right knee to your chest as close as you can get.  Hold and then swap.  If pain persists, stop immediately.
