A low fat diet is one of the first diets people will try to lose weight, however a low fat diet is not as simple as you think. While it is important to cut out deep fried foods and trans-fatty fats, it is as important to still consume monounsaturated fats, olive oil and polysaturated fats, like those contained in fish. These fats are important to us as they lower our cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease.Cutting out trans-fatty fats is important as they increase the risk of coronary heart disease and are bad for our bodies. This type of fat can also be found in cookies, margarines, cakes and many varieties of fast foods.Found in butter, cheese, chocolate, cream and coconut, saturated fats should also be eliminated to maintain a healthy heart. Saturated fats have been linked to strokes and an increased risk of a heart attack.
